The shame with the second one is the blown out sky and slight crookedness. The first one has some nice textures.

It's what the sky was, just socked in fog. When you're travelling, you take what you find...

Nice photos. I actually like the 2nd one, with the sky all white, almost reminds me of a stock image.

I love the textures on the first one! The tones, and shadows- all yummy. The 2nd one I live, even with the sky being white. I think it makes one focus on the building.

Thanks for your comments. There was no chance to get a better sky, and I wanted the image of the Baptistry to set context. Please, look at the album I posted on my page, if you'd like to see a couple more.:)

True, but even fog has details. What camera were you using?

D3, 17-35 f/2.8. Everything has detail, if you get close enough. In this case, the fog cover was complete, and strongly lit by mid-day sun ( which managed to burn it off by evening- I'll post some night shots later). My object was placeidentification for the subsequent panel images, and I didn't try for an optimal rendition of the sky (not that I would have managed it, anyway, without an HDR sequence, which would likely have produced a reasonably exposed view of mashed potatoes) An overly long replky to a simple question...:)

I like No 1 it has wonderful texture about it but No 2 just looks like a touristy snap shot, sorry John just being honest my friend, I know your talents from previous threads and am sure you took better photos than this one.   :( :( :(
