Portmerion in Wales

A couple of years ago we visited Portmerion. Famous shooting ground for "The Prisoner" back in the 70's?

Here are a couple of shots. Converging perspective is intentional in the tower shot. As always feel free to comment, advise etc.

Warning to any one visiting.

I drove across Wales from the North through Bala. 4 speed cameras flashed on the way, 6 points on my licence, £120 fine, 2 invites to speed awareness training. My fastest recorded speed 35 mph!

Nice shots, Ned. The first one is technically excellent! :judge:

And I thought our speed limits were ridiculous...!

Have always had a soft spot in my heart for The Prisoner, as I once owned and raced a Lotus Super 7. So were these originally film? They certainly have a film "look" to them.

Rob, I think they were set at 30 mph and I'm sure some locals supplied with hand held cameras were responsible, peering through hedges or the like. Like I told her indoors, it would have been cheaper to fly to Lisbon and we'd of got there quicker.

John, yes N0.1 was the more considered shot. strong lead in and the view framed within the frame. N0.2 well its not classic but in a cramped view its difficult to leave room to correct perspectives which distort the architects designs.

Kelly, me too with "The Prisoner" they re ran it recently and it still intrigues.

You racing would resonate with my father if he were alive. Back in the 50's he raced on 2 wheels, non factory Norton's including the Isle of Man TT. His mechanic (my uncle) was an aero engineer, boy I bet they had fun. When I changed cars, after Wales, I got a Z4 Roadster, 3 litres, but not for speed. The appeal is digesting the countryside and sun "al fresco". That's good for 2 days a year over here!

Film? pure serendipity I'm afraid. Although I have experimented with PS de-speckling, PS noise reduction, Neat Image noise reduction, and a trial of Noise Ninja to see if it were possible to "mimic" film. These weren't part of any trial as far as I remember. They do look like the pixel edges and corners have been "sanded" though to give smoother contrasts? Not sure how else to describe it with limited technical knowledge.

At the risk of alienation I consider the "velvet" like clarity of film far superior to the ' junior hack saw tooth" sharpness of digital. Only at the highest end of digital does it come close, and sadly film will be lost in a generation. It's like the early vinyl to digital sound comparison arguments, along with valve to solid state guitar amplification, in my view.

Cheers
