I actually think I like the second one better, which might just be personal preference, because I think the foreground makes for an interesting composition - they're both well done, just different views. I think the horizon line works in the first one because the rocks break up what would otherwise have been a more noticeable straight line across almost the middle of water and sky. Beautiful photos.

i was shooting at f/16 with the focus just before infinity, does that answer your question?

Like you'll hear Bryan Peterson say in some of the tutorial videos posted on this site: "When is the best time to take a vertical? Right after you take the horizontal!"

Sure, there's a reason that shooting horizontally is often called "landscape" orientation, but sometimes a vertical shot gives a nice interesting spin on the shot. In this case I like them both but prefer the horizontal version.
