just boring?

such a sad story!
today i decided "hey, lets step out of my comfort zone a bit and try some shorter exposures" what a bad idea....

iona beach is one of the only beaches in vancouver that gets decent waves, and i thought i'd take advantage of that by doing some 1/4 second exposures to catch the cool movement of the water. turns out i underestimated the size of the waves and ended up dousing my camera with a few big waves.
by that time my filters were wet and sticking together and i couldn't get a decent shot, and about 20 minutes later we had THE MOST GORGEOUS SUNSET EVER! i could have cried.

so here is one of the long 2 minute exposures i got before the big wave hit. i can't decide if its wonderful and minimalist, or just boring? c&c please

When it comes to large waves I like the fast shutter, so you can see all the bubbles and spray. Now with rivers and I like the smooth peacefulness from the slow shutter, just my 2 cents :beerbang:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I think it's interesting. Don't see a lot of photos like that.

I like it. Screw what everyone else thinks. Only my opinion matters.

Lovely shot... I'm with Adrian... he pays me to say that! This time it's true though (bonus!)... :woohoo: :judge: :judge: :judge:

I like it too. When it comes to moving water, whether it's the ocean, a river, a stream or whatever, I almost always shoot at both extremes of shutter speed. Sometimes you walk away with an amazing splash of water hitting some rocks from the fast shutter shots and they turn out to be the best ones from the day. Other times you'll get some wall hangers out of your long exposures with nice smooth and creamy looking flowing water.

Obviously you're very good at long exposure work. If I was as good at that as you are, I'd make it my personal challenge to master the opposite technique next. :)

You seem to be having some interesting experiences near the water with your camera! I lke the gradation of color with the texture of the sky in the background and the driftwood in the foreground. The vertical framing seems to enhance that.
