the walls are closing in

something a little different from me (what no clouds and no ocean!?! ridiculous i know)
fern canyon is an amazing place to visit, canyon walls going straight up 25 feet in the air covered in ferns with a lively little creek running through it.

c&c very welcome, this isn't my usual subject matter so i didn't really know what to do exactly, did this image capture the whimsy of this magical spot?

I'm shooting out of my box as well and the comfort level isn't there.

This isn't up to par with your other work. It's too busy and your eyes go all over.

I like the rich detail. But I would fuss with the levels. The shadows on the left wall are too dominate. Also might tone down the saturation a teensey bit.

I hate to say...but its not one of your better shot....considering the high standards you set in your other works.....this needs to be treated from a different angle...the detail about high canyon walls are kindof lost or rather unavailable...I would probably try it vertical, with the water in center, lower the exposure, or something else....although the colors captured are quite rich....but overall it looks too commonplace..:(

I think this would really work if the canyon walls were just rock faces, but not with all the vegetation. It's just a little too much. The exposure and smoothness of the water are great, but for me I think the perspective and angle of the creek feel a little odd -- like I want to see it shot from a few steps to the left instead.

I don't seem to see anything that's in focus. I don't do the long exposures so maybe that's somewhat the nature of the photo or process, but looking at it I feel like I'm skimming all around the image. Maybe the technique you use for landscapes that go off into the distance don't work with a scene that's much closer to the camera.

whenever i upload pics to this forum they always look a little soft/blurry/out of focus.. not sure why

hey everyone, thanks for the comments, looking at it, i agree that maybe its not the best scene for a long exposure. though i did blend two exposures (the sky and such in the back were wayyyy over exposed) though i guess i could have brightened the foreground even more... things to think about!
