Boston at Sunrise ... which is better?

I shot the horizontal first then moved to the left and framed vertical when I saw what was lining up.
Which is better? Why?

The second one (the vertical format). I think the line of boats leads your eye nicely towards the skyline and the brighter sky. Having said that, there is too much "grey sky" at the top, which makes the horizon sit in the center of the image. I think if you cropped that above the bright area of the sky it would be stronger.

The vertical on in this case. I would have framed in some of the reflection from the water and a bit less of the bland sky at the top. A horizontal shot would have looked nice as well as it is the composition of the boats that really differentiates the two shots. :judge: :judge: :judge:

Boston is tough for sunsets, I'm guessing you took this from near the Hyatt Harborside hotel? All of the downtown buildings are in shadows. You hit the same spot for a sunrise and it is a totally different situation.....;)

It sure is ... for both sunrise and sunset. This is a sunrise; I'm on the Mass Ave bridge across the Charles looking east.

The 2nd one. However, I like how the sun is shining on the boat in the first one.
