Yeah, I have a thing for piers. :) So after messing around with the photo in Lightroom & Photoshop as a color image... I decided to convert it to B&W to see how it would look. Now I'm on the fence. Perhaps you can leave your 2 cents which you like more.

I'm a huge fan of b&w and this one looks great, but I have to go with color on this one.

OK... still tooling around with this photo. Cropped it, got rid of the odd poll on pier and cleaned up the sand. I think this looks better, what do you think?

The dramatic colours compliment the image... altogether it looks fantastic!

Black and white for this one. The colours look over-saturated, whereas the B&W has drama.

I'm a fan of B/W. There's always a great mystery about water or the sea. The B/W certainly captures that look and feel.

Perception is such an interesting thing, don't you think? For me, the B&W has no drama at all. Definitely color.

I prefer the color one, the BW looks a bit flat to me.

I prefer the B&W version. To me the image is more about shape, form, & contrast and I think the color 'gets in the way'. The colors in the sky don't quite "ring true" (not that I'm necessarily against manipulating colors). In general I prefer color photography but for this image, I think the sense of proportion, depth, contrast/tonal range, and composition are better represented without it. The empty beach, and the lack of people on the pier also impart a sense of emptiness that seems more complimented by the starkness of the B&W image as opposed to the feeling of warmth one gets in the color version.

For me the color you captured is a big part of what makes it such a great shot.
