Stumbling around in the dark

I convinced my brother to drive out to manning park (about 4 hours outside vancouver, bc) with me last week to shoot some star trails. we've had unusually clear skies here this summer and wanted to take advantage.
everyone was asking me before I left "but where are you actually going to take photos?" (considering the hwy drives over 50km through the park).
I always responded "Ill just stop when I see a good spot".

Turns out I forgot how dark it gets a night...
thankfully I stumbled onto this amazing spot!

c&c welcome. I really like the colours of the trees and creek, however I can't decide if i should fix the verticals so the trees on the left side of the image aren't leaning in so much. thoughts?

one 1970 second exposure.

It was a short focal length lens; the trees are fine.

Yes, excellent spot. I'd tone down the sky so that the trails pop more. The trees, ground and water are perhaps a bit bright as well. It says "twilight" more than "midnight". Which is fine, if that's what you want. I am used to seeing more "dark" in these kinds of shots.

 Don't know much about photography and it's rules and regulations, but, based on what pleases the eye and satisfies the mind, I completely agree with Gary: an overall darker image (with reservation of some foreground detail) would portray "midnight" better. And the slanting of the trees does not bother; straightening them may take away some of the grandeur of the composition.

Same here . . .it is almost as if the stars/star trails are 'pulling the trees into the composition'.

Works for me.
