Does this work for anyone else?

Caught this a few weeks ago. Does this sort of thing appeal to anyone else?

Thanks for any reactions and observations!

I love everything about it. I love the silhouetted trees at the bottom. I love the moon at the star (or is that Venus?). I love the dramatic change in color of the sky.

:thx2: Yes, that's Venus.

Warm against cool nearly always works. Very nice image. If you are not against manipulating an image, I would try to take out a section horizontally across the middle, bring the moon lower in the image, blend the sky back to match, and crop to a pano. That's a lot of work I know. I like it either way. Good job.

Here's another version, where I squsihed the upper portion and moved the moon and Venus. I never know what a good ratio is for a panorama, though. This is 1x2. What is a common aspect ratio for a panoramic image?

Tragically, I just realized I posted this image already, but didn't get much response on it. This has been helpful, thank you.

That's a good ratio. The pano needs to be cropped on the right end. After seeing it, I may lean towards the original. Toss up. Both are nice.

So the crop is about the placement of the celestial bodies within the image? Yeah, tough call. I wanted to maintain their original spatial relationship so wasn't sure about where to stick them. I can move them anywhere without too much trouble the way I made the edit.

I'm thinking I will make a 16x9 version of this for my desktop. Or better yet, a 32x9 across both monitors. :-)

Awesome shot Gary. Makes me realize I need to start shooting again.

 Great, deep colour! From a novice point of view, I prefer the second image to the first, simply because of less empty space between the horizon and the celestial bodies, but then you would need to crop the right side...or move the celestial bodies more to the right to maintain the panoramic dimensions?

It works for me. The top one. There majority of shots have a very basic balance. It is nice to see a fresh ratio. This will work better as a huge print.
