Sunrise in the valley of "La Orotava", Tenerife, Spain

10 years 6 months ago #309869 by Ulrich Brodde
Beginning of September, going (driving) up to a special place, altitude abt. 1.500 m,
early in the morning at abt. six o´clock in the morning.
Then there you have the rising sun in your back and you can see how slowly the "Teide"
is coming out of the dark, becoming red of the sunlight, beginning at the top.
Then after some time the whole mountain is red while the valley is still dark.

Comments, critics, meanings most welcome!

I am interested to know about the decisions that you made regarding the bottom of the image- both before the shot and in post processing.

I do like this photo and if I needed to leave a critique, I would have to say either crop the top just a tad or to punch of the clarity just a smig. Other than that, I think that must have been a beautiful sunrise to witness.

I agree about cropping the top. I might have cropped a little closer overall personally, but other than that I really really love it. I like the colors and the subject matter.

Thank you for your comments.
Clarity really could be punched a bit but I must say that this depending from the background where the photo is shown and from it´s compression too. Postprocessing has been made in Lightroom with a dark background and after scaling down and jpg-compressing the pic lost details, specially when shown on a white and light background like here.

Ref the crop I have another meaning. Often I follow the rules and the horizon-line is on the "Golden section" of the pic.
Additional I wanted to show the development of color shades in the sky, starting red at the horizon line, changing to yellow and finally to blue in the high sky. Also the moon would reach the edge of the photo too high if the pic would be cropped at the top.

Linda, doing the photo I used spot-measurement at the red mountain cause this was the main motive for me in the pic. By this the foregrond became darker than it has been in reality but for me so the soft light became more important for the pic.
Postprocessing only was to increase the exposure a bit, a little bit more clearance, cropping a bit from the foreground (all with Lightroom), sharpening the RAW-file with NIK-sharpener, scaling down and jpg-compressing with Lightroom.
EXIF: F 22, 1/6 sec., f 17 mm, ISO 100
