Oh yeah, the camera angle, and those lines from the shadows really make this a fun one.  Nice decision on B&W, it brings a nice 'gritty' feeling to the photo.

No, I do my own blending in post. I used to use Nik but got tired of fooling with it, so I just do my own now. You are correct in that the red channel is heavily involved to get the sky to look that way.
