Who makes the most affordable 500mm lens?

Or better yet, if used is better option. Where can I find, and what lens manufactures make a good 500mm lens? Would you go manual to save money on a lens like this?

I would stay away from the mirrored lens. Cheap - Yes. Usable - not really. I'll sell you mine used for $45.00 plus S/H but then you would hate me forever!

Check Sigma. When I look to buy anything I check on the internet for reviews.

Give some thought to a afs300 f4 and a TC1.7. Unless you need MORE than 500mm, this combo works very well on my D700, and with ample light.......;)

Why so serious?

When you are shopping at that focal length, I don't think affordable is in the same sentence

:agree:
Exactly! A 500mm prime no matter who makes it is a bend over and grab the ankles lens. Even the used lenses the term affordable isnt used much. Unless you are really affluent.
