Renting 500mm or 600mm and bringing lens over seas?

I'm going to be going on a African safari photo tour workshop hopefully this fall or early 2012. I was wondering can I rent a 500mm or 600mm from lens rental company in USA, but bring the lens over seas? Will the optional insurance still cover the lens in case something happens?

I near 100% they will rent to you as long as you have U.S. residential address. Definitely get the insurance!

I'm opposite of you and heading to Detroit from December 14 and staying till January 3 with family. I'm going to be looking to rent a zoom lens but not sure if company will rent to me as I am over seas resident. My brother in law is big hunter and is taking me on a hunting trip, however I don't hunt, so the only shooting I'm going to be doing is with my camera. Should be a fun time.

Well Dragon I might suggest that if ZBirmingham Camera is still in business they may rent you a lens. Your brother in law may have to secure it for you. If they dont rent lenses then they may know who does locally.

Be sure to bring other protection.

Going to range depending on the company, call them up. Ask for a deal, you might get one

Our insurance policies cover the lens regardless of where it is. Just be sure to bring your rental receipt so they don't try to charge you taxes when crossing borders.
