Is there a BIG difference between the different brands of lenses?

I see Nikon, Canon, Sigma, Tamaron, etc... being listed all the time. Is one that much better than the other. I definitely see it in the price... care to give me any input on this?

It is a hard thing to say across a whole brand, its more of a lens by lens assessment and comparison. Some 3rd party gear is very cheap and poor, whilst some is very highclass work.

About the only major difference is that 3rd party gear generally does not have weathersealing, whilst your main camera manufacturer might offer it on the lenses that your after - again not all of their lenses will be weathersealed either.

They all make cheap lenses and they all make expensive lenses. Some are lemons and some are gems. Most are pretty decent lenses. It's best to compare specific models. What makes one lens more expensive than another might not have anything to do with image quality.

It's almost impossible to categorically say one brand is better than another or prices within a brand are better than another, it depends on what your shooting.

Tamrons last 70-300mm for Canon was shocking (not tried the new one although heard reasonably good things) and within Canon the 50mm 1.8 is pretty much the cheapest thing out there but an absolutely stunning lens.

Although saying that I haven't ehard of a bad L series lens yet :)
