Lens 270mm with a 34mm extension tube. Strobe with diffuser out over the subject. I played with the Ap between 8.0 and 22.

Really fine shots, Charles. Those tubes are addictive, eh?

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Good start Charles. One thing to remember, when shooting with a long lens, you have more distance from the subject... More distance = More DOF, so it's not necessary to stop-down as much. Open up some, and get the ISO/shutter speed up a bit. This will help lighten the background.

A good start, but you've headed down a path of no return. People think you're strange when you go bug stalking. Have fun!!

Uh oh, more competition...

Great job. Welcome to the giant land of tiny!

Sure, practice makes perfect but, unless you learn from your mistakes, you are only perfecting your ability to fail.

LOL I know what you are saying, I often wonder what my neighbors think when I am out circling mud puddles to get the perfect reflection or crawling through the grass when it is frozen shooting the ice crystals. In the giant land of the tiny (I love that description) we do some odd things. :silly:

Nice start, chas. dang gave you some excellent advice to go with. Even backing up an inch or two will change the brightness of the background. Has to do with the inverse square law of light fall off.

In the macro world, everything gets multiplied.

Well done!

Matthew :)

Make sure to get the focus on the eye. It looks like the focus is hitting a little farther back on the body. Have fun with it. It can be challenging.
