Big bug

12 years 8 months ago - 12 years 8 months ago #132314 by fotozone
I do not know what this bug is, it was about 2-2 1/2 inches long.

Then it started to do this

I am glad I was able to capture the series I should have included the body but I had just got focused for a close up of the head when it started digging and I did not have time to recompose the shot.

Thanks everyone. Dang thanks for the ID I had not had time to hunt for it. I could not believe my luck when it started to dig when I was already focused I was kind of like  I almost never have that kind of luck. LOL

Hi Lila,
Your good luck is our good luck too. It's a gorgeous species and you captured it superb. But be careful of wasps in the fall when they become more protective of their nests. In the US alone, we have around 12 deaths a year due to their stings. Usually from people who have been stung before without reaction.

Dang thanks for the warning; we have a lot of nasty bugs around here so I am very careful when I am photographing something I am not familiar with. As to your warning about wasps my Mom is allergic to wasps, I have been stung with out a problem (*knocks on wood*) but I always treat them with extra respect I do not want to push my luck.

Oscar I am shooting with a Nikon D3100 with a Nikon 85mm macro lens. I got this lens a few weeks ago and can not bring my self to take it off the camera I am having to much fun.:P
