I also had to take this without a macro lens, as I didn't have one then.

I just purchased a new lens and had a bee hanging around yesterday. Enjoy...

Hi Joe,
Not bad for a crop, though it's a little under-exposed. Watch out though, shooting bugs can be habit forming and you'll end up buying a macro lens... :)

Richard,
Good start with the new lens, though it's seems a little soft. Could you post your exif, and tell us what set-up you used? It might be due to motion blur, or focus? Thanks.

Okay. To keep it going, here's a couple more. The first one is a close-up of one of the small metallic bees on a yellow flower around the size of a dime to give a bit of perspective to their size:

And, here's a macro of a similar sized bee. Note the pollen grains sticking to it:

And here are a couple from today (3-27-2012):

Keep them coming, and thanks for posting.

Hi Hussain,
Yeah, the green one is a female of the species, and they're quite pretty especially in the sun. Sorry I can't send one though, it's not allowed, of course unless you get a special license to keep exotic species. Otherwise, I'd swap you several for one of your mantis. ;)
Thanks.
