While a pleasant image to view,  It needs more "punch" to differentiate it from other images in the contest. That said, judges are subjective & even if it meets the technical aspects of the category, they will be swayed by their own biases... I know as I have judged macro contests before...

What do you have to lose?

The image is nice and you must like it or you wouldn't have entered it.  So I would say keep on going.

The thing about competitions is that there is only one winner, or three places (usually) and that means there will be lots of almost winners (Bozo Philosophy).  Ask yourself just exactly who you are creating photographs for, you or them.

:goodpost:  Fun advice.  Also why I never bother with competitions.

As for CC, I would like to see lighting that is harder.  Of course that would mean a re-shoot.  As for the present image, I would try a B&W version.  Then you could go nutz with post processing.
