Overwintering caterpillar

8 years 3 months ago #468581 by Screamin Scott
I found this caterpillar under my 55 gallon trash can as I went to put it by the curb this past Monday. Mind you, temp was 28 degrees
Fahrenheit. Brought it in & put it in a terrarium I have with pupae
that I am waiting for them to hatch. Took a few images of it first. I'm
not sure of the ID, but it evidently is one that overwinters as a
caterpillar....

Hey Scott, don't like your subject matter, I don't like creepy crawley things, but you do a great job photographing them.

My wife feels the exact same way... She hates all insects, even butterflies (if they land on her). & would rather I took more images of people. That will happen soon as my oldest Son & Daughter in Law are expecting their first child (first Grandchild for us). They are professionals (Lawyer & Doctor) & had put off having children till now due to their desire to solidify their professions. My wife is ecstatic (of course) & everyone wants me to take lots of pictures.

I'm intrigued with macro shots of bugs and stuff.  An area that I don't have much experience, however something like this motivates me!

Yes, bird food & glad it is are this is a cutworm. They are serious pests... Had some that decimated some of my tomato plants last year.
