Extension tube formula?

13 years 3 months ago #43371 by Baydream
I just received my set of extension tubes. Is there an easy formula to let me know the impact of each tube (or combo) with relation to the lens and distances impact?
I have 13mm. 21mm, 31mm set.
(If covered in another thread, please point me toward it.)

Be sure to let us know how well these work for you John. I'm getting close to opening the macro box or worms myself.

For a quick sum-up of magnification gained when using tubes with a non-macro lens, here's a simple comparison:

50mm lens + 50mm of extension = 1:1
100mm lens + 100mm of extension = 1:1
25mm lens + 50mm of extension = 2:1 or double life size.

If you need an exact formula to cover various focal and extension size, let me know.

When used with a macro lens, I'm not sure what the formula is, but here's an example shot to show magnification gain when used with a 50mm macro.

Thanks again for the info.
