Long Necks

This photograph was taken at the San Diego Zoo and I love the positions of the giraffes but I think the background may be to busy. What do you think? How can I tone down the background but keep the wonderful animals in sharp focus?

All comments and advice is welcome and appreciated!

My wife (Jennifer) is a giraffe fanatic and she loves your shot! The only thing I would do is try to increase the exposure in the shadows a little! Nice capture!

It is what it is.

Do you think this one is better? Tell Jennifer thank you! That's a great compliment coming from a giraffe lover!

While I'm all for getting it in camera, you might want to apply this Ps "trick"...

I took a quick look at the tutorial and it looks like the perfect solution. I will try it later...have to go out right now but I wanted to take a minute to thank you. I will re-post after I have given it a try!

Great suggestion Matthew.

This is a situation where I would start to think a bout switching my metering mode to Center-weighted metering to try to nail the exposure on the giraffes. Just a thought.

I do like the second with the giraffes lightened, although the giraffes might just be a little overexposed now. Please do not consider me to be an expert though. :)

It is what it is.

Never apologize for an opinion, Barry.

An opinion implies, "this is what I think (right or wrong)..."

What has gotten lost is the art of debate, because no one is allowed to be wrong anymore. The runner that comes in last also gets a blue ribbon, and all opinions are validated.

Instead be loud and proud, even if your opinion is 1000% wrong. At least you'll know right away if you are, and can move on a bit older and a bit wiser.

:)

Now back to your regularly scheduled thread on caged animals.
