Geese & Ducks

12 years 2 months ago #198061 by bigbubbaG
I shot these guys (& gals) a couple months ago at a local community pond. I was fortunate enough that while I was there, several geese flew in & amazingly, I caught them in flight & "landing". As usual, any critique & pointers for improvement are welcomed & appreciated.

Nice birds in flight shots in the first 2, I love the white one. Great job! :)

In you single bird shots, I would crop so there is more room where the bird is looking.

The close up rocks!!!! :judge: :judge: :judge:

Don't pi$$ me off, I am running out of room to store the bodies...

Very cool shots

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Nicely done Bubba ... I really like the first one
Try working on not "centering up" your images quite so much as you grow. While the rule of thirds does not apply to wildlife images as much as it does for other types of photos ... the thought process is still there. Sometimes you can change the image framing by moving your focus point around .... and of course you can change the perspective by cropping the image so the subject is not dead in the center of the photo.

And of course sometimes the subject just looks right in the center of the "page". Like I said there are no hard and fast rules about wildlife image composition but it is imoportant to allow the photo to be as interesting as possible.

Thanks for the pointers, Bob. I will keep them in mind next time I get to a pond. I do remember the rule of thirds, some times  ...

Thanks John. I actually was a bit in shock!
#1 I could not believe at first that I was there when they flew in.
#2 After swimming around for a few minutes, they actually came out of the water & walked right up to me. I got a lot of close up shots that day!

I have a similar lake near me. Unfortunately we get mostly seaguls. But there are times when ducks will waddle up to us thinking we have food. Of course I never have my camera when that happens. I like the color you got from the pics too.

We even get the "ugly duckling?"...

This one has the bluest eyes I have ever seen in an animal
