Bear Time !!!!!

12 years 1 week ago #219492 by bhowdy
I live for spring and the time when our east Tennessee bears come out of their winter dens. Here are a few from a Mother and her three cubs taken this morning in Cades Cove - Great Smoky Mountains National Park. (I have a very intimate relationship with this family, from last spring and summer.... so happy that they all survived the winter. We had a very weak mast crop last summer, so the survival of all three cubs wa in question.

Hope that folks here don't get tired of my Black Bear images

Cub # 2

Cub # 3 (largest of the cubs)

Bluesy - I always feel blessed when I am able to spend time with the bears. No doubt they are my favorites. Cades Cove is not that far from Montgomery .... Lord knows we get loads of people visiting Cades Cove from Alabama! :woohoo:

Great job Bob. I don't know if I will be able to get up there anytime soon, so I'm green with envy. Hopefully I can sneak over when I come up for Mother's Day. Keep those great images from the Volunteer State coming!

Great pics. :judge: :judge:

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

Bob these are fabulous. I wouldn't worry so much about anyone getting bored with shots like these. You seem to get so close I would worry that someone might think Bears are easy to shoot. Wonderful job! :judge: :judge: :judge:

Thanks everyone. Chas ...... I agree that my photos can be deceptive. I use a 500mm lens and make sure that I never pressure the bears. Some, like this family, I have seen several, to many times.... and during those times I study the behavior of each bear. For example in the Cades Cove area there is a male bear that is either goofy or crazy ..... after watching him for a couple of years I realize that he is unpredictable, so I give him a wide berth and do not photograph him.

It's not a petting zoo!

Beautiful work Bob - We love the Cades Cove area and visit every time we come to the Park.Chris and I have seen some nutty people chase bears with video cameras going , I worry that at some point the bears will turn on these uninformed tourists. Keep posting your work as we love seeing it.This is one of our favorite areas in the Park on a hot summer day.

 Fantastic shots Mr Grizzly Adams.....I'm showing my age now. They are fabulous animals and I'd use a "hubble" lens if I were taking them lol.
