Lovely bird but everything that could go wrong looks like it went wrong. Under-exposed, out of focus, too busy and poor composition. All that sounds a bit harsh. Please don't take it the wrong way as it's only meant as constructive criticism ;)

Thank you for the in put. I can only keep trying with the focus, and I know what to do about lighting but what do you suggest with composition. I am shootin them where I see them what can I do different? Would love to hear some ideas. Very open to learning.

With the composition you should try to leave some room for the bird to look into. When shooting birds, which is all I ever seem to do, I always have my camera set to centre focus and always aim for the eye. Whenever you do catch the bird by the eye in the centre of the frame this then leaves you room to crop any space behind the bird. Aesthetically speaking this really helps. For years I just took photo's of birds and filled the frame with them. I then got some helpful advice and haven't looked back.

Hope this is if help to you. Anymore questions please ask away. Not that I'm an expert or anything but I always like to help out where I can.

thank you so much fergie. I try to put all advice into practice when ever possible. I got more shots today of this bird and fixed the lighting issue (I feel like anyway) and I think they look alot more in focus in fact when I compared todays with yesterday I could really see how out of focus they were before but you let me know what you think.

I am not a bird shooter, but I will say today's are MUCH improved over the first one. Better lighting, better focus, and working on composition. I am a huge stickler about focus, I throw out so many soft images because they just don't capture what I want.

I had played with my metering and not sure but I think it was part of the problem.
