My landlord/landlady are petsitting and I grabbed the opportunity to snap a few shots :)

I can't decide if I like the lighter tones with the white overlay or the deeper tones better

Thank you
I've never much been able to pull off the "softer" look... better stick to my niche and keep with deeper tones ;)

There is a method, the "Orton Effect" that works (Kind of softens) on some shots, not sure how you did it here. If interested, Google a tutorial as its very simple......;)

Interesting.. never heard of that method, and never really bothered to try and figure out how other people do it, I just sort of experiment and never with great results x)
Usually involves overlaying gradients and playing with different colour tones

Edit: After googling "Orton Effect", I see we are clearly talking about different things.... do people actually like that look? Gross.

No, I mean stuff like this:  [was going to link to some random photo but Florabella has the "soft" look in almost everything, so I'll just link you to the Florabella Photoshop Actions homepage]
www.florabellacollection.com/

I think people do it the same way I've experimented:  By overlaying colours and gradients and sometimes just painting in a subtle colour with a not-so-opaque brush, the key is knowing when and where to do that and I tend not to do it right.  I tried it on my photos of Julie and I was pretty happy with the result but that's the only time it's really worked for me.  I think that's because I like the look when other photographers do it, but it generally clashes with my own personal style and when I try to reproduce it I try to cut a compromise between that and what I've adapted as my own personal style and they don't seem to get along

Great shots! Love the first one! Turn it into a greeting card for Easter.
