Bees on Lavender

Anthidium florentinum - on Lavender.
Sometimes when i´m in the situation of having two bees in the same frame if i´m auto-focusing i´ll
toggle the focus square to where the other one is and take another shot then combine the two focus positions in the first image. Manual focus is of course quicker, but more difficult with moving critters.
To get the type of smooth back grounds i do, the lens needs to be close to or at the minimum focus distance and usually extra light is needed in the form of a dedicated macro flash or some other form of diffused off cam flash.

Great photo.  So do you focus stack a shot like this?  Focus on one bee, take a shot.  Then focus on the other, take the shot?

Hi Nikon Guy, yes exactly right but you gotta be quick as they move away fast. It´s a little tricky doing it hand held as this was, much easier on a tripod, i had a problem here as i couldn´t get the tripod close enough into the lavender bush, may be easier if i had the Nikon 200mm F:4 giving me longer reach..
What i do when theres just one stack is sync my initial editing in Lightroom so both images are identical in tone edits then export to PS and open both images on the screen. Then i select a reference point in one image like the tip of a leaf with the clone tool and hit the same point in the other image (that bit will be erased later). I can then proceed to clone in the bee as it should be lined up in the same place. Sometimes a little tweaking is necessary with focus planes and a little wind can miss-align stuff, but it´s fairly easy. Only thing to remember is to shoot on manual as you dont want your exposure to change even slightly between the shots :-)
