Yes been doing the tours over 20 years now. We fly out direct to the park, most tours will do a 6 hour drive but thats too long a waste of time for me. The airstrip and camps are in the middle of the park so basically you are right there, Ive got great shots within 10 minutes of landing/taking off as well as some areal shots so I keep my gear ready.
Your second question is an important one. Its savanna habitat so not really jungle like which means many areas are relatively open with bushes, etc around. Mostly I just tell my driver, he checks the terrain and I just go behind the vehicle or a checked bush if more privacy is warranted
