When elephants rest, do they remain standing or do they lay down?

Elephants charging at vehicles is due to tourists/drivers getting too close or the animals being harassed by too many tourists or loud tourists. Typically this is cheaper safaris and budget group tours that are mostly responsible for it. I don't go to certain countries for that reason interestingly the same countries also support paid hunting so another reason to avoid bankrolling it (tourist tax dollars go to the government promoting hunting)
A few years ago a young male that I think was mentally unstable chased me from very far for no reason, I think he had been abandoned by his herd for the same strange behavior. It was very odd but he was not close at all so not an issue.

Mostly they are just interested in what im doing, if they have young ones that's where you have to give them extra space. This one was close enough to be in the shadow of my vehicle which did get my heart pounding but he was just curious and in an area with no other tourists.

Graceful animals.  So the African landscape kind of looks like the mid USA minus the animals of course.  You know with the large plains and such.  Or perhaps it's just with these shots.

Yea its mosty flat on the plains once you come over into the rift valley,  but you can see the hills in the back and ofcourse you have Mt Kenya and Kilimanjaro  around too. Apart from the animals the vegetation in particular the thorn and flame trees are quite different. You prebably  have more rivers and lakes around then the midwest I would assume
