Looking for 2x for D-50 to use with Tamron 70-300 lens, can't figure out compatibility issues or really pricey options

My teleconverter works very well with my Tamron 18-270mm mounted on my Canon 60D except in low light conditions the auto focus likes to hunt. It was well worth the price though.

:agree: Mine give a slight decrease in quality and I often have to focus manually when the light goes away.
Generally, the higher quality the convertor, the higher the price but the "brand names can be pricey"..

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Usually they need to be put on a 2.8 lens because it takes it down a few stops of light. Think it's best if you do some research on the internet about the lenses and teleconverters.

Telelconverters are for the glass and the body inst relevent. For a good TC you will want the Kenko Pro-Series. Also you might rethink a 2x as the higher the magnification the more likely it will degrade the image quality. The 1.4x is very good and does not degrade the image. If you choose to get the 2x nailing the shot will be critical, also in lowwer light situations the 2x will be of no use, as where the 1.4x may work just fine. The 2x may also make the camera hunt for focus in lowlight.

I have always had a 2x converter and I never use it. The one I have now is a Tamron. It just robs too much quality for my liking. I personally think you are better off with a 1.4 and then cropping it to what you want. You can't buy long reach cheap.

I also have the 1.4x for the same reasons mentioned.

I bought a 2x thinking it could be a cheap shortcut to a long lens and was only disappointed. Sold it and got the 1.4 and am delighted with it.
You get what you pay for!
