Tamron 10-24mm and Nikon D90 having focusing issues

12 years 4 months ago #190408 by Gammill
I just picked up a Tamron 10-24mm lens and having some focusing issues with it. When I press the shutter half way down, some times the lens will focus and many cases it just goes back and forth?

Any one else with this sort of issue?

The lens/camera is probably having a tough time finding edges, possibly low light? Do a little testing in good light.....

Why so serious?

I have to agree is this in low light and mixed lighting situations? I find that many third party lenses will hunt if the set up isnt perfect. This is why I no longer buy them. You can also try wiggling the lens in the mount and see if that cures it, many times the lens mounts have some play in them and are not on the contacts correctly. Also try cleaning the contacts on the body and lens.

Im assuming that the lens has a 77mm front? That is your problem most likely if you only have issues in low light. My tokina does the same thing in low light. The front element is soooo big that it blocks the AF assist light, add a lens hood that is turned around for storage and its even worse. You can run a speedlight that has AF assist..

Nikon 50mm f1.8D, Tokina 28-80 f2.8, Nikon 75-300, Sigma 18-200, Nikon SB-600, Nikon SB-25, Promaster triggers
