Nikon camera owners: what is your most used prime lens and zoom lens?

12 years 2 months ago #201103 by Stanly
A friend let me borrow their 18-200mm over the weekend and I have to say I was very impressed. For the price, it's a good value. I have been thinking about picking up Nikon's new 85mm. Just wondering would it get used often or would it be like a Lensbaby. Used for a few weeks then forgotten!

Let me pick your brain, post up your most used prime and zoom lens. How many of you have the 18-200mm?

Nikon Z6 | Nikon FM10 | Nikon D80 | Nikon 50mm f/1.8D | Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S VR | 35-105mm f/3.5 Macro | 80-200mm f/4.5 | SB600 | Pocket Wizard II

Depends on what focal lengths you use. I had a Canon 85 f/1.2L mark II. Probably one of the best 85mm's on the market and never used it. Don't like the focal length for a prime.

I shoot 14mm, 24, 35, 50, 135, and 200 a lot.

My most used prime is 50mm 1.8.

You will not be judged as a photographer by the pictures you take, but by the pictures you show.

I have full frame FX Nikons. I use a 24-70 2.8 the majority of the time. The other most used is the 70-200 2.8. I shoot a lot of high school sports. Last week I picked up my 50, 1.4G and started shooting basketball with it. That is one fantastic lens, sharp as a tack and quick focusing.

Tough call... the focal length I liked best was my Nikon 70-300mm but it wasnt a great lens (<200$) - So i went out and bought a 18-55mm and a 55-200mm lens that were of better quality. I like the images from the 55-200 better than the 70-300 that i have... and I use it when i can... but overall I now use the 55-200 most

As for prime... I have a 50mm 1.8 - thats it... so thats the only prime I use. lol

The 18-200 VR makes up about 75% of my images. I use the 105 VR for macro, low light interior and portraits. I use my 80-400 VR when shooting birds, sports etc.. I don't feel the need for a prime. My 18-200 allows me to do almost everything I need. I do admit that a very fast prime would be useful for limiting DOF on a few images but I'm not sure if those few would justify the expense.

For me the most used zoom is my tele zoom, right now it is a AF Zoom-Nikkor 80-200mm 2.8D ED.

My most used prime has to be my AF Nikkor 50mm 1.4.

It is what it is.

Using Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 most the times. 60mm f/2.8 micro also works well for portraits and macro shots. 70-300 ED for teleshots. Planning a wide angle for my FX.
