D3100 Lens

I just bought a Nikon D3100 and am finding the zoom quality limiting. I am looking to purchase a lens that would give me the ability to have better zoom quality. I am open to any suggestions that anyone may have. Thank you.

What lens do you have and what type of photography do you like? Also, what is about the "zoom quality" you don't like?

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Im assuming your talking about the kit lenses (18-55 or the 55-200)? What do you mean by the zoom quality (is it the softeness at the max focal length). What do you primarily shoot? These are all kind of questions that will help pick your next lens.

Nikon D200
Nikon 50mm f1.8D, Tokina 28-80 f2.8, Nikon 75-300, Sigma 18-200, Nikon SB-600, Nikon SB-25, Promaster triggers

I have one that came with the camera. It's 18-55. I'm thinking about purchasing the 55-200. I primarily shoot landscapes and wildlife. I would love to find something that would allow me to shoot insects.

This is my first camera that is not a point and click. Learning how to use it has been overwhelming.

I don't know if I should wait till I have more experience with it to purchase the other lens.

A good all around lens would be the 18-200mm f/3.5

Nikon D700 | 14-24mm f/2.8G ED | 24-70mm f/2.8G ED | 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II | (2) SB-900

For wildlife you need at least a 300mm at the long end, don`t forget to get a lens with the built in motor so you can use autofocus.

For insects, consider getting extension tubes. It's a less expensive to try macro than a true macro lens. Then if you like it, you can save for a true macro.
