Thoughts on successor to Nikon's D800? Nikon D900 coming?

The D800 has been out for 15 months or so and by far it's the best camera I've owned. Thinking about how high Nikon set the bar with this camera, has me wondering about it's successor. Which I'm guessing would come roughly in another 24 months or so. I'm sure there must be some rumors floating around already on a Nikon D900 perhaps? Could we be looking at a 45MP camera

What do you think?

Nikon is snoozing on the D300 upgrade, I thought for sure we would see a D400 on the shelf's by now. What's the latest on that any way? Any solid rumors on a D400?

Wow. The D800 is still practically brand new (there's only been one other FF camera introduced after it) and you're already looking for an upgrade? Yeah, I don't get that.

More pixels means more data, which means longer write times, which slows down the total number of frames/sec you can shoot.unless the buffer size is increased (significantly).

And FWIW, it will likely be 48 MP.

Given that the Mamiya medium format camera uses backs with 55 - 60 MP, I'm not sure a more dense sensor is a good thing. I want cleaner images at lower light with less noise. And faster shutter speeds.

Short of that, I'd rather just go to a D4 (someday, I hope).

Of course, people with GAS are what help drive down prices for the rest of us :-)

36 mp is actually too much most of the time for me. I've been using my d3s more than my d800.

Rumors only. Think about what Nikon has done with the D800. In crop mode, you have an 18mp image file. Now think of the price point on that D800, and what a D400 would probably sell for, and you might not see a big niche. Its possible Nikon has made a decision on one DX line, the D7100, and with the D600 is inviting the more serious shooters to the full frame market. Just surmising here....

Well if anything Nikon will come out with a revision camera between the current body, and a new model. So this means that maybe by next year you will see a D800 S,or X. I also believe that the AA filter will be gone on them, and all future models.
