85mm or 105mm lens used on D7000 for portraits

If you had just one lens to use for portraits would you use 85mm or 105mm.  I own a 105mm right now and wondering would it be worth to get the 85mm for portrait work vs using the 105mm.

If I was going to be doing portraits on regular basis, 85mm all the way.  Killer focal length to have in your bag.

Keep in mind you have a 1.5 crop, so that 85mm is really at 127.5mm and that 105mm is a 157.5mm

The only thing that changes when using a lens on a crop sensor camera is the "Field of View" (FOV) the actual focal length does not change...

The 85 would probably be a 1.4 or a 1.8 vs. a 2.8 on the 105. The 85 can give better subject isolation but with correct positioning of subject to background, good results can be had with even a slower lens than a 2.8. The 85 is more practical if you do a lot of portraits but if you already have the 105 it is kind of a wash. The 85 is sweet though.

Agreed.  I'd go 85 as well.
