Nikon D700 water resistance

8 years 4 days ago #479105 by J Photo Man
I have one of those camera raincoats that slips over my camera and lens.  However IMO, it's a pain to use.  If a camera get's caught for a few minutes in rain, will the water resistance of this camera keep things safe?

Its weather resistant, and should not be subjected to heavy rain...or submersed of course. Light moisture should be dried off asap....Plastic bags work as well as anything I've found....

+1 on the plastic bag front. Easy on, easy off.

I rinsed my old one off with a hose and my d3s the same before.  Probably not the best idea ;O

They're Nikons....I used to take my D300 camping, and it doubled as a tent stake driver when I wanted to hike light. Tough as nails......(I do NOT recommend)..........:)

lol I know.  I love them.  My 70-200 has a lot of "love" scuffs.  Their cameras are built like tanks.  It would be unfortunate if we accidentally destroyed one though and had to upgrade :(

I won't buy a Nikon camera that isn't weather resistant.

Copied from Nikon's page on the D7100
"Compact and lightweight body realized by Nikon DX format, that employs highly reliable magnesium alloy covers and superior weather and dust sealingReduced from the D7000, the D7100 weighs a mere approx. 675 g/1 lb 7.8 oz (body only). With excellent capturing power, exquisite detail reproduction and depiction performance encapsulated in this compact, lightweight body, the camera demonstrates great agility. The body is also durable as it employs magnesium alloy for the top and rear covers. With effective sealing applied on various parts of the body, it secures weather and dust resistance, equivalent to the D800 series and D300S. As a middle-class DX-format D-SLR, it features a highly sophisticated design, which satisfies pride of ownership."

Yup, I actually missed a lighter carry around, crop body after selling my D300 and D7000. I think the D7100 is one of Nikon's big surprises, certainly a big improvement over the 7000. I probably shoot it more than my D800......

Never could get into the smaller bodies.

They're fine, and for a walk around camera are a lot easier to tote than a larger, heavier combo.
