Nikon holy trinity of lenses

7 years 7 months ago #497742 by Roger Lang
Why is it, when someone post about "Nikon Holy Trinity" of lenses, people get up in arms and somehow turn it into a religious thing?  I get it "Holy".  But we are talking about lenses here.

I think some just get worked up or are looking for fights.  Just my 3 cents.

I don't know about it being turned into a "religious" thing, but those lenses are among the best that Nikon offers (among the priciest as well if you exclude fast super teles & other exotics). Most shooters can't afford them & most can use lesser lenses with great results.

When someone says something that bugs you, they often only want a reaction. Why bother? Those are great lenses, who cares what fans call them?

Think the holy trinity of lenses should change anyways. I know the zooms are 14-24, 24-70 and 70-200.  I think the 24-120 f/4 might be better than the 24-70, except if you need to shoot at f/2.8.

Yes, but I had the 24-120 f/4 and even at mid apertures its not as good as the 24-70. I also own the 16-35 f/4 and its another in the class of only missing the 2.8....I recently bought the 20 f/1.8 mostly because of the better night shooting results, mostly Milky way stuff. I get a much shorter exposure at lower ISO (cleaner) with my new addition....

After using my 24-70 last weekend, I won't be selling it.

I didn't use my D800 for a while, and went on a night photo trip, used the 24-70 and reminded how good it is, I wouldn't sell it at today's prices. Best I own....
