Battery grip for Nikon D700 error

7 years 5 months ago #504385 by Miss Polly
Have any of you had problems with your battery grip tripping errors that look like "F--"  on your camera?  When I press the shutter button, I can hear the mirror flip, but nothing happens and I get an error displayed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

Are you using the Nikon grip or an aftermarket grip ?.... Is it still firmly seated on the camera base ?

Not a Nikon, it's a Meike.  And yes, it's tightened as much as it will go.  :(

Try removing & reinstalling it....Also , Google the error code & see what it pertains to..

Perhaps it has dirty contacts? A quick clean with some alcohol might help.

I remember the D300 wouldn't accept a non chipped Nikon battery. I wonder if that's got something to do with it?

Why so serious?

Your better off going with the Nikon battery grip

Canon EOS 7D SLR | XT W/18-55 Kit Lens | Canon 50mm 1.8 | Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 | Canon 28-105mm | Canon 75-300mm | Canon 100mm 2.8 Macro | Canon 100-400

The only F--, or Fee errors I ever got were due to the lens not being set to the smallest aperture, or the contacts being dirty, or one of my 3rd party lenses shifted off the contacts. But in either case yes I would not use a 3rd party grip. What lens were you using, as it could have been solely coincidental that the lens was off when you had the grip on. In which case try shifting the lens in the mount if it had any wiggle.

Yeah sounds like you have a some connectors that aren't seating all the way.

That's why I stick with all same brand as camera body, from lenses to grips.  This stuff was built for that camera.

Canon 5D Mark II | Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM | Canon 35L | Sigma 85 1.4 | Helios 44M-6 58mm(M42) | Zeiss 50mm 1.4 (C/Y) | Canon 135L | (2) 430EX II

:agree: same with me.  There's a good reason why you spend more on the name brand stuff then off brand.

Many of the accessories to OEM lines are made by subcontractors to OEM specs. Many of those same subcontractors market aftermarket copies (with minor changes) to the public. Thus you can often find aftermarket goods that are just as good as the OEM models.
