Using Nikon Z6 focus ring to control exposure compensation

4 years 9 months ago #652342 by Matt Nguyen
I'm playing around with my Z6 special settings today and found that you can change the focus rings function to control exposure compensation.

Have any of you tried this?  I'm wondering how practical this would be?

Surprising configuration!

I always use EV… but on the focus ring?
Practical? Try it and you tell me! :P

Light is free… capturing it is not!

Too easily turned in my opinion but I don't own a Z6 so it's an uninformed opinion.

I may just do that!  I'm thinking that back button focus will obviously need to be set up based on what I'm reading.

Turns out you can control either the focus ring, aperture, or exposure compensation from that.

Um, on which lens? Any Z-mount lens? Or any lens?

While I can see the utility in having the ability to make live changes to EC using a continuous analog control, I think it could get confusing if the function isn't available across all lenses.
