Nikon d750 buffer problems

4 years 8 months ago #654748 by Pete Franko
Anyone else have issues with their D750 buffer?  I don't seem to be getting a decent buffer and I don't think it's the memory card either.  I have tried 2 with write speeds of 95.  I'm getting 5 or 6 shots off before it locks up.

Not right, should be much higher.  have you had any issues with your D750 buffer?

You manual will suggest cars to use, go for the highest
write/read speeds possible and the two card should be
identical in every way.

The D750 manual lists, on page 491, Approved Memory Cards.

You'll note that it only lists capacities. Not read/write speed requirements, nothing.

Give me a moment to stop laughing....

So we conclude that what Nikon provides is basically useless information, so let's move on, shall we?

Buffer has nothing to do with your memory card's performance. The camera will buffer images until it can write them out. When the buffer is full, it's stops capturing images. Since you say you're only getting 5-6 images in the buffer before it's full, we need to look at the data you're capturing. Your memory card is irrelevant at that point.

You don't indicate what file format you're using for your RAW files, but given that I am able to buffer 10-12 shots when shooting 14-bit lossless compressed, full frame, I'm guessing your camera is set for uncompressed 14-bit raw files. They're about double the size of the compressed files.

So check pages 477/478, 492/493, and then the Image Quality menu settings, on pages 115-118.

Having a fast memory card enables the buffer to dump out faster. That's pretty self-explanatory. If you are using your second slot as backup, the speed of the slower card is your gating factor.
