Can Z mount lenses be used on a Nikon D810?

4 years 1 month ago #677926 by Dan Lindgren
I was reading that you can use F mount lenses on the new Z cameras.  But can you go the other way and use Z mount lenses on older bodies like the D810?

What benefit would there be from using a Z mount lens on a D810?

Thank you

Dan

No. Not possible. This question has come up several times here. Mirrorless lenses would have to protrude into the mirrorbox to make the registration distance to the sensor correct. Since this is not physically possible then the definitive answer is no.

Lighter and smaller possibly, otherwise marginal benefits
since it would be a disaster in terms of performance, specs
and predictable results.

The F on Z mount works because the adapter corrects the
sensor coverage and the flange size… the reverse won't go..

Light is free… capturing it is not!

.

Not sure how you come to this conclusion. If it were possible, and it's not, but if it were the images should be better since the Z glass is testing out to be sharper than the older stuff. That fact and the fact Z glass would have the latest focusing motors available would make them equal or even superior in performance. In the end it doesn't matter since they won't work on an F-mount body anyway and any discussion would be pure speculation just for fun.

For these sort of adapters, if you want to see what is available.  Keep an eye on a company called Metabones.

Metabones can't change physics.

It's always advisable to read the entire thread.
