Nikon D780 Body (Renewed) on Amazon??

3 years 11 months ago #686383 by Greg Friedman
I'm shopping around for a D780, and noticed that Amazon has one for $300 less than new.

"Product works and looks like new. Backed by the 90-day Amazon Renewed Guarantee.This product has been professionally inspected and tested by Amazon-qualified suppliers. The product may have minimal scratches or dents, and a battery with at least 80% capacity. Box may be generic and accessories may not be original, but will be compatible and fully functional."

So will this also have the original 1 year warranty too? And are the "Amazon-qualified suppliers" supported by NIkon?

Didn't know they dropped from 5 years to 1. That kinda sucks.

Amazon, for their reconditioned gear, will tell you in the listing how long it's warranteed for. But it won't be a Nikon warranty, most likely. If you want Nikon refurb, buy from Nikon.

N.B. I purchased a used Tamron lens, reconditioned, in 2012 from Amazon, and it's been a great lens. So they are capable of selling good products.

That said, that's not much of a discount for something that's not new. For $300, get the real deal, with coverage.

Oh, and as for "shopping"? You do understand that Nikon sets the prices for its products? You will find exactly the same price for the same item no matter where you look. Anyone offering something at a bargain rate is selling gray market goods (you don't want that) or trying to pull a fast one (Abe's of Maine, etc). I won't go into an explanation of gray market goods. Google it.

You have four options:
1) Buy what you want (a legitimate US product), now, at the price available;
2) Wait for a Nikon sponsored sale (it may very well happen Real Soon Now to move product);
3) Wait a while for used bodies (at good discounts) to come onto the market;
4) Risk a gray market product.

But you're wasting your time shopping around. The only choice will be which vendor, and whether they'll throw in cheap stuff you probably don't need.

I trust Amazon to take back goods within a couple
of days but a camera? I would not try to save 300$
here… peace of mind is almost priceless, just me.

Light is free… capturing it is not!
