This was my first attempt at a B&W self portrait (well one of Many that day)....took this about 1 1/2 years ago. I was too darn nervous to look at the camera, what do ya think?

You've got stuff growing out of your head. ;) (AWARE the background of distraction!!11 It's always lurking... RIGHT BEHIND YOU!!!)

Also, some eye contact would be nice, but that's JMHO.

Eyes sell portraits and yours are either looking something good on the stove or watching TV. :watching:

I will offer an opposing viewpoint to this idea. Dan Winters doesn't always position the subject with eyes front for portraiture. Here's a link below to a few of his portraits.

Seen his stuff before and a majority of his shots you see the eyes looking at you.

He also uses the fact that people are extremely famous, and instantly recognizable. If a lot of his look away shots were no names, nobody would care about them.

I guess he does have the whole celebrity thing going for him with most of his portraits, lol.

McBeth mate, the thing with Dan Winters is he uses shadows and lighting to give the photos a pensive mood. So looking off pensively in the distance makes sense.
