Crit on an edit?

Hello all :) I'm new here but not at all new to the photo world. I recently took this photo of one of my High School Seniors and wanted some honest CC on the edit.

The scenario, it was a blazing hot and bright day and my assistant couldn't be there to hold up my screen so I had to lightly place it between some tree branches (without falling into the swamp it was rooted in) My senior is a snow boarder and really wanted Mt St Helen's in the background, so that's what we were going for. We will have actual snow photos when we have actual snow lol.

Anyway, we were in a hurry on top of the no-assistant thing. I'm holding the end of the screen with my right hand and I have my left hand curled under the camera so I can fire the shutter-- so I was all in a mess and couldn't really adjust the controls and sort of just shot with what was already dialed in. She has a little bit of scattered light on her chest that I debated about whether or not to remove but in my experience as long as it's not on the face, my clients either don't care or don't notice (however, I try not to get that in most situations)

So I say all that to say this-- does the edit look good to you? What would you change? I am not worried so much about the pose, orientation, etc-- just the edit.

Camera settings:

ISO 160, f/8 @ 1/160. OCF: SB-800 @ 1/2

Thanks!!

The edit looks good to me

You made it vibrant without looking over-saturated or blowing out any highlights - although your shot was well exposed so your dynamic range was pretty good to begin with. You made her stand out really well from the background.

If I had to pick anything to work on, there's just the slightest bit of haloing around your subject. And with the other objects that you removed, I'd also fix the little bit of fly-away hair.

That's just being extremely picky, though. This is very good work!

Looks like you brightened her up a bit which to me really makes her just look like it was a lovely sunny day. The dappled sunlight looks fine I think, if you hadn't mentioned it I doubt I'd have noticed it. It just adds to it being a beautiful outdoor portrait. If you hadn't described the way the shoot was going I wouldn't have known you photographed this while doing a juggling act! You do some nice work.

:agree: Well done.

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

We are our own worst critic aren't we?! Every time I take a photo, I think "man, it would have been perfect if I woulda just _____" LOL!

I added all that info because it was such a rushed photo in general and I could see all that was wrong with it. I want to make sure that it looks like something that would be a good photo to showcase to my girl here.

Sometimes having more than one set of eyes is the best thing ever!

Thanks again!

Precise edits are tough to critique on this site, because the renderings of uploads are unpredictable. Better for you to post a link to a good photo host that you use. Then we will all see the tones the same.
