Yes, of course. Leica are definitely the best. IF I could afford a $60,000HKD MF camera (body only price) I'd buy it no problem.

99% of my macro shots are all auto focus. I use my tripod 40% of the time for macro.

Brand loyalty and affordabilty definitely plays a crucial part in choosing your camera system. I started out with Canon SLR and the lenses I have accumalated would cost too much too replace if I had to swop to another brand - say nikon. Would love a hasselbald but.......... 10,000 euros is a bit steep. So I choose to love my Canon...

I had a chance to get a Leica cheap. In high school, I had been honing my skills with yearbook photography (Mamiya DTL 1000 and Konica AutoReflex T3 SLRs). An expert from one of the chain studios came to our school to talk about photography, so of course I was there. In the Q&A after his talk, one of my fellow students asked about the poor results he was getting from his camera, a Leica. The expert said it was probably fungus in the lens, and unless he wanted to pay hundreds of dollars for repair or a new lens, he'd be better off getting something else with more modern features.

I asked my classmate if I could see the camera. It was a Leica IIIg with a 35mm lens. The "fungus" diagnosed by the expert without looking seemed to be entirely on the front surface and had wavy lines to it... a big, greasy thumbprint. I could have said, "I'll give you $50 for it," and likely walked away with it. Instead, I pulled out some lens paper and cleaning fluid and cleaned it up. I handed it back to him and told him to try another roll of film in it. I think it was just fine after that. It felt good in my hands for the brief time I held it.

"I used all the light that was available." W. Eugene Smith, fielding a question about the mourners photograph from his "Spanish Village" photo essay.

Usually with macro it doesn't quite know where you want to focus and hunts a lot, definately need a tripod for steadiness. But that is great if you can get get your shots in auto focus.

Interesting story Welsberr.

For me it's Ricoh, Konica, Pentax, Canon; and as someone else said that doesn't include Polaroids, box Brownies, a Voigtlander, cheapie plastic, etc. etc. Now the truth comes out and people admit all the film cameras they have

I've only had the lens hunt a couple of times out of the 4yrs I've had the macro lens. So maybe my AF is more like 95% of the time. Either way, AF and no tripod is majority of my shooting and it works for me. Part of me feels a tad guilty, because I had my MIL buy me a macro plate as a xmas present and I barely use it. lol

All photos in my macro gallery www.crystalwightman.com/macro
was shot hand held, and auto focus.
