Lens cleaning advice, please ...

In my former analog photography life, lens cleaning meant "Kodak lens cleaner & tissue". These days there's so much stuff on the market, I lose my direction. Any good practical advice? What are you guys using yourselves?

I haven't changed my lens cleaning technique from analog to digital. The lenses haven't changed.

I use a sable hair brush for dust and/or dirt, then hot breath and a high quality cleaning cloth (or a cotton T-shirt, depending on what's available).

For serious cleaning, I'll add liquid lens cleaner. Over the years, I've learned how to handle my gear (I keep everything in a bag or a case when not in use) so serious cleaning isn't often necessary.

This is the best cleaning cloth I've found:

Matthew :)

PS I have a lens "pen" too I use on occasion. Again, mostly depends what is available at the time a lens needs cleaned, and I have no fear cleaning my expensive T* coated and Leitz glass, or ANY glass for that matter, using these methods.

I breath on the lens, and wipe with a lens cloth or shirt tail. That's always worked well enough for me. I stopped using lens cleaning fluid several decades ago, because in my experience it seemed to add more crud (a film I could see) than it removed.

When I'm outdoors, this is all I do! Nothing fancy and not issues.

I have so many of those lens clothes around that I always have one in my pocket for times like this. Just a couple breaths of hot air and whip off with my cloth.

I guess, by the next rainy day, I'll be ready to start cleaning some UV-filters ...
