That is one sweet piece of glass. They let me play with a used one when I bought my tripod to test the stability of a much heavier lens on the legs.

Stealthy had one and said it was pretty much the same as the nikon variant. It is hands down my favorite lens I have. Get it ASAP.

Makes you wonder how much percentage of Nikon or Canon sales are their lenses vs camera bodies and flashes?

You mean your Nikon lens is your fave right?! ;)

Yeh I had one of the first 70-200 2.8L IS II (one of the first In Hong Kong).

Excellent lens. Nikon one is just as good.

Here's a non-scientific evaluation I did between the 70-200 2.8L IS II and the Canon 200 2.8L (the later being a very good Prime lens from Canon). It's a 100% crop from a Canon 5D mark II:

Here is a comparison between the 70-200 2.8 mark II versions from Canon and Nikon. Because of the MP difference I tried to compensate in the cropping. You'll notice the focus breathing the Nikon does makes the water dispenser seem further away also, I may have been slightly further from the subject... they were done weeks apart and hand held... so there will be some variation. The thing to look at here is the sharpness.

I've owned both. Both are very good. The L has IS which helps a little bit with macro.

They are pretty much as sharp as each other. Some say the bokeh on the L is better than the non-L, but I didn't notice.

Here's a test I did concerning the IS in macro mode. The IS on the L is a special hybrid IS that is supposed to be better for macro shooting.

Thanks Ninja! I saw the PT and Digital Rev video on both and feel for my needs, while I love the weather resistance of the L version I think I will end up with the regular. I see a difference in comparison shots and in macro I know detail matters. But it doesn't seem enough to make me want to fork out double the price till I am making more money with my work.
