Things you can do if your photo is stolen

12 years 9 months ago #117107 by Gammill
I think many of you including myself are concerned about posting or sharing photos online, in fear that someone might steal your photos. One option is to put a watermark or make the photo low resolution.

Any way I came across a blog that had some pretty good tips on what do do if your photos are are stolen with out your permission.

Here is the short version or my cliff notes:

You can request recognition of the photo or credit for taking it.
You can file a copyright infringement lawsuit.
You can send a cease and desist letter
You can set up a DMCA Take down notice

Gammil, if you make a more organized list with links and sources of information...I'll make this a sticky.

You can watermark them in photoshop or Lightroom there are plenty of video tutorials on the subject

:agree:
I dont have any images on Facebook except for one with my concretepump on it, not likely to be stolen. Facebook has been know to change their TOS to give them too many rights to photos. Posting low quality images size wise is your best protection. Then there are Invisible Watermarks but they arent free.

you can make a visable watermark in Photoshop on a separate layer. Just use the type tool & type what you want your watermark to say then turn the opacity back so that you can clearly read the watermark & still all of the image through the type.

I hope it was useful. :)

I'm not a great photography by any means but a photo I took of a bird someone took credit for so I know put a watermark on all my photos it's easy and I no longer worry about someone stealing or taking credit for my photo.

Thanks form the info...I made the mistake of taking a couple of shots with someone else's camera to try the camera out, and my "friend" took credit for the images...even though our styles are too different to confuse, it would've been petty of me to call him on it, since he was letting me try out his new camera after all
