Portrait vs Commercial Photographers

What's the difference between portrait photographers and commercial photographers? Don't they both sell photos for money, making them, by definition, "commercial?"

Commercial photographers work for businesses.

Portrait photographers take photos of people.

Yes, you are right, both are commercial since both are for profit. But portrait photographers generall specialize in weddings, babies, family and individual photos - in short, people. And the jobs are usually contracted directly by the people having their photos taken. Commercial photographers specialize in product photography, aerial photography, real estate, fashion photogrpahy, advertising, etc. Most of their jobs are contracted by companies and other commercial ventures.

Actually a WEDDING photographer specialises in weddings, a baby photographer specialises in babies etc. etc.

A portrait photographer specialises in taking portraits. :p :p

I'm not sure if a commercial photographer really specialises in "Fashion" photography that much, that's more for fashion photographers. Of course a commerical photographer can to that too.
