Come on Henry. That's like saying a Rolls is way better than a Ford or Chevy in a discussion about Fords and Chevys. Not the same argument.

I have to agree with a lot of what is being said. I have been to many professional workshops where they only shoot jpeg, do their white balance and get it right the first time. That's one less step changing from RAW to jpeg, they can upload their portraits quickly and sell. But I'm not that disciplined and if I forget to check WB ect I can change or fix exposures that I can't in jpeg. I think a lot of people are afraid of RAW because they don't know what it takes to adjust them . It takes me a couple seconds in Adobe Bridge. Once you learn RAW I think you would like it much better.

I shoot everything on raw+jpeg. Some shots I like to edit the raw. Other pictures I do the minor adjustments on jpeg and it's good to go.

50/50. When I am shooting fast action, it's jpeg. Other than that RAW + jpeg (best of both worlds).

Shoot, learn and share. It will make you a better photographer.

Yep, we've talked about this subject a lot. It's RAW for me pretty much only, except if it is not needed for a creative professional type use. Some people don't understand RAW and are afraid to learn why it is good to do and when.

Well I will typically shoot RAW for most especially if I know I am going to want to Post Process it. If I am just shooting on Vactation/ Family I will Shoot JPEG for the easy download/upload to the Computer. I have Used RAW+JPEG, however that takes up alot of space on My camera. I have a D5000, When I get my D7000 with the Dual Memory Card I will most likely always shoot RAW+JPEG. I like to try and get a great shot everytime in the camera, so I do not have to do so much Post Processing.

The only really difference is that RAW is your Negative, nothing has changed in the picture from the moment you snapped it. JPEG is a consilidated image with alot of the aspect thrown away. So you if you look at RAW like an OLD film Camera, that is your negative strip and JPEG is the edited Version of it.

Happy Shootin

I shoot RAW+Jpeg Fine. I shoot that way as cats said, if a photo needs alot of work then I have the RAW if it doesnt then I use the jpeg. Also remeber RAW files are oringinal files so they are like having a negative, if you worry about the theft of imageas and need to go to court for Copywrite violations you have the original.

This is (now) a combination of a few old RAW vs Jpeg threads (which were basically clones of each other).

Enjoy!

P.S. if you accidentally to start another RAW vs Jpeg thread I'll move it here for you ;)
