Throwing a camera in the air to get the shot?

This took some guts and good hand to eye coordination!

Would you do this?

I know! I was blown away. I'm curious how he got the focus dialed in on a shot like that?

That takes guts! I like this technique though. Best to be on sand in case he missed the catch.

I've done it. When I had my D50, I heard about throwing the camera to create images. So I did it and you do create some interesting shots. I haven't done it when I had my D80 or now the D7000 because I just don't think about it. If I find the pictures I took I'll post them later. It may take me awhile, as this over over 5yrs ago. Maybe I'll just take new photos with the new camera. :)

I'm guessing that he used a wide prime to improve his chances of getting good focus.

It is what it is.

Since the shot turned out it's very cool! If he'd bricked the camera... :)

It looks pretty wide. It should be easy to get enough DOF setting manual focus at 10ish feet. It's not like he's going to get a razor sharp image with the camera whirling like that. I have enjoyed a lot of the camera toss photos I've seen, but haven't even tried it with old cameras. I'll put a camera on a pole or something, and would love to try kite and balloon photography, but throwing cameras is just too decadent for me. ;)

Interesting technique if you're a good catch. It helps that he's got a guy behind him w/a flash and if the camera keeps firing I guess odds are that you'd get a decent shot. Using a flash as it's getting dark probably helps freeze the moment.

This is beyond retarded. You can build rigs and mounts to take a shot from higher up.
